Money Saving Tips for Show Day

If you are looking at doing a fitness competition and are short on funds, here are a few tips to help you save some money without letting it show.

I always recommend that every competitor has a suit that is made for them no matter what. Having a suit that is too large, too tight and doesn’t fight correctly can affect your placement in judging. Make sure you spend the money here and don’t try to pick a random suit off a rack. Where you can save money is on the jewels. What makes most bikinis expensive are the jewels and crystals placed on them. Not necessarily because of the cost of the jewels but due to the time it takes to put crystals on. If you have extra time, buy a be-jeweler and put crystals on your own suit. This hands down will save you hundreds.

When it comes to make up, especially if you are artistic, do your own. This can save you money in the long run and you can help you get more sleep on show day. Most organizations have makeup artist that are promoted by the show. If you aren’t one of the first ones to book your appointment, say hello to a 5am slot. What is crucial with make up is that you have the correct foundation shade. The level of tan required for fitness competitions is exceptionally dark. I recommend going to MAC, Ulta or Sephora and asking for several samples. If you are newer to doing stage, make up, get a makeover done. Buy the products, used and ask the artist to walk you through what they did so you can mimic the look show day.

Lastly, lets talk about spray tans. Depending on what organization you are competing in you could save money not using the promoter’s company. In IFBB or NPC I would stick with utilizing their company. They also provide a list of different brands of foundation that match the color of tan you will receive. Spray tans run around $150 dollars. Most tanning companies offer very dark spray tans. I usually opt out of having them spray my face. If you have foundation dark enough, you can’t even tell. If you decide to go this route, make sure you bring spray on tan for touch ups and bring oils. Spray tan dries the skin immensely and the oil is needed for when you go onstage.

Good luck ladies, I hope this article was helpful and can save you some money along the way. Remember to have fun up there!! When you do decide to step on stage all that hard work deserves to be shown off.
